Thoughts on NYE
The speakers have held the 4000 kids spell-bound all morning.

Dr. Eboo Patel
"Don't inherit traditions, make yourself worthy of them"

Challenging ideas are as plentiful as corn stalks in Iowa.

NYE has been a really great experience. It's has been a great opportunity to get acquainted  with other kids from the UCC. Emmery G.

July 27
(Sunday morning gathering)

This young man from Sudan read scripture

"Living Peace" JOHN THOMAS!
On 911 John was in Germany where HOPE arose among thousands of German youth ... He rediscovered the torch of peace in a moment of terror.

July 26  (noon)  This has been such a really great experience, to become acquainted with other kids from the UCC with some of the same beliefs I have. It is also a great preview of college life. The reason I say this is because we are given dorm rooms where we share our space with most of the kids that we arrived here. But others share with kids from different conferences. We also have to choose our own bedtimes, we have to be responsible in choosing because we don't really have that much time to sleep. But this really has been a great experience and if you want me to tell you more, I would be happy to go to a church and speak about it. Emmery G.

Saturday evening worship

July 26   (morning gathering) 'Living Green'

(Friday evening)  Have you ever seen 700 people mimic the illustrative movements of a leader?  It's breathtaking. How about sitting among a seemingly endless row of strangers and talking like you're old friends?  And then there's listening to someone whose 15 years on this planet have been accompanied by heartache and tears, telling an auditorium of 2000 people that she is trying to love all of them, just like God does. That was pretty cool too. The first full day of NYE 2008 was a day of discovery and joy, as all in attendance discuss how we, the UNITED Church of Christ can better love and serve all of God's beloved creation.--Brian Gruhn
