Hurricane Katrina disaster response |
|
United Church of Christ disaster response continues to focus on those areas locally and globally where some catastrophic event has upset a way of life for people. Most recently, of course have been efforts to help in those areas affected by Hurricane Katrina and the Tsunami that decimated coastal areas in Africa and Asia. Volunteer assistance is still needed to help restore homes and other structures in New Orleans and surrounding areas. Additionally, the United Church of Christ stands ready to respond to those areas where our church members in this Conference may be impacted by fires, flooding or other natural disasters. Initial support for disaster response comes from One Great Hour of Sharing offering, but additional non-designated gifts to Emergency USA and International Disaster Fund are encouraged. Our efforts do matter. UCC relief contributions directed to tsunami and hurricane relief have exceeded $3 million which means we will be able to respond to continuing recovery needs for the next several years. Thank you for your help.
