YOUTH & ADULT COVENANT

Because God calls us to be a community of faith and leaders in Christ’s church, I covenant with God and each other to conduct our life together at Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ events in a manner that promotes a community of faith, and I agree to the following:

1. I will participate in all activities, working together to learn and grow from my experience.

2. I will treat all people with dignity and respect. I will not use profanity.

3. I will respect the property of all people.

4. I will use the facilities made available to us with care. If I hurt or accidentally damage property, I will take responsibility for the damage done and inform the Director/Staff person immediately.

5. I will not smoke. I will not bring matches or lighters to events.

6. I will not engage in sexual activity.

7. I will not bring or use anything that might endanger me or anyone else. This includes anything that could be used as a weapon, alcohol and/or illicit drugs. Prescribed drugs must be left with the nurse or adult leader.

8. I will not bring any electronic devices, with the possible exception of audio music players. If I bring a music player of some kind I will only use it during bedtimes and make sure no one else can hear it. I will not carry it at any other time. This includes but is not limited to cell phones, PDAs, DVD players, laptop computers, and video game systems. (Adult advisors are exempt from this due to the need to have cell phones for safety and supervisory purposes, but agree to keep their use to a necessary minimum.)

9. I will be mindful of others’ rights to privacy.

10. I will honor the curfew: I will be in my room for “lights out” and stay where I am supposed to be for the night unless I have permission to be elsewhere. (For adult advisor: I am responsible for my group 24 hours a day. I am conscious of my role as a positive model for my group.)

11. While I am at a Southwest Conference of the United Church of Christ event, I am a representative of my local church and the entire United Church of Christ. I will keep this in mind and behave accordingly. I will follow all official Southwest Conference Youth and Outdoor Ministry procedures and guidelines.

12. I will arrive on time and remain for the duration of the entire event, and I understand that there is no “coming and going.” I understand that exceptions to this are a disruption to the community and I will negotiate any exceptions with the Director/Staff person as far in advance as possible.

13. I understand that violation of this covenant may result in loss of privileges, loss of status as a leader, loss of privilege to attend events and/or camp, or returning home at my own expense. I agree to accept consequences implemented at the discretion of the Southwest Conference designated director.
